Applicant Information

Due Date: May 7, 2010
Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Purpose

To identify high school students who demonstrate the ‘right attitude’ and provide them with monetary assistance to attend the post-secondary institution of their choosing.

Fields of Study*

Any full-time course load at an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution. This may include a trade school, college or university. A minimum of two scholarships are provided per year to each of the aforementioned categories of post-secondary institutions. For each category, one successful applicant is placed in the ‘A’ Pool and the other in the ‘B’ Pool (see below).

Value & Duration

The amount of money awarded is decided on an individual basis. Typically, successful applicants are placed in one of two pools:

Pool APool B

$1500.00 for the first academic year

$1000.00 for each additional year (received at the beginning of each additional year pending successful completion of the previous year)

$1500.00 for the first academic year


The amount awarded is issued directly to the applicant upon proof of registration into their respective program.

Conditions

Candidates must:

1. be graduating in the 2008-2009 school year
2. be a Canadian citizen
3. have notification of acceptance into a full-time post-secondary program
4. be a current resident of Northumberland County
5. be attending a high school within Northumberland County

References

  • Of the two references, one must be an academic reference (teacher, principal, guidance counsellor, etc.).
  • Please contact your reference regarding an appropriate time for The Foundation to contact them.
  • Letters must be confidential. We suggest you supply your references with an addressed and stamped envelope, with the instruction that they sign the seal of the envelope before mailing to the following address:

Extracurricular, Volunteer & Employment Experience

  • A maximum of 10 activities are to be listed.
  • Activities listed must have taken place during high school.
  • Briefly list 3 points outlining how your involvement in each activity has contributed to your growth or development as an individual, and/or why the activity is meaningful to you.
  • Character limits are in place.

Creative Expression

  • Respond to the prose using any type of preferred media.
  • You and your attitude alone are to be the main focus of any submission.
  • All submissions must be original.
  • Any written submissions must not exceed 3-5 pages in length (12 pt font, double-spaced, 1” margins).
  • If submitting artwork, please include a maximum 1 page, written submission of how it relates to you and your attitude (12 pt font, double-spaced, 1” margins).
  • Any digital submission can be attached to your application in a file using the attachment(s) icon.
  • All submissions that cannot be sent in the form of a file can be dropped of in person at:
